Obituary of JOYCE WATSON
WATSON, JOYCE MARGARET
Joyce Margaret Watson [nee Longhurst] passed away suddenly but peacefully with her loved ones by her side at the University Hospital in London on Apr 30th 2013 after a prolonged illness. Joyce was in her 84th year and was predeceased by her son Mark and her husband Eric. In honour of her final wishes, cremation will take place in London, but interment will follow, where she will be laid to rest along side her beloved husband, in the place that she loved most, Port Dover.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made on Joyce's behalf to the Canadian Diabetes Association. The family wish to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at University Hospital, Oak Crossing and Grandwood retirement homes who provided such kind and compassionate care and support for our Mother and Grandmother while she was in their care.
Joyce and Eric immigrated to Canada from England in 1952 and settled in eastern Ontario, but their most cherished memories were of the time spent together in Port Dover raising their family and forging lifelong relationships with their many friends and neighbours. While living and working in the Belleville area, by happenstance they came across a wonderful little fishing village on the north shore of Lake Erie and were so smitten that they vacationed in Port Dover for many years before an opportunity arose to make it their home. After the demise of the aircraft industry in Canada following the closure of the Avro Arrow project, fortune shined on my parents as they were able to relocate to Port Dover and to do so my father volunteered to make the daily commute to Brantford where he worked for Massey Ferguson for 20 years. Moving to Port Dover was a dream come true as they so often recounted - as it was truly meant to be their home and it remained so for the next 45 years.
It seems only fitting that my parents will be reunited and my Mother laid to rest beside my Father... in the very place that they both loved and where their most cherished memories were forged.
