John, I knew him as Randy and of course, Fish. And a beautiful, lovely man in every way. I will always remember, as others have noted, his wicked and profound humour, the fun times and the laughter. Remembering his kindness and genuineness, please accept my condolences for your loss. May John rest in peace, and he will always have a place in my heart.

Dear Margaret, Tom and family – it was with great sadness that I read of John’s passing. My sincerest condolences to you and your family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I was reminded recently of the early days when your parents had the corner store on Norfolk Street South and the good memories from that time. Kind regards. Bill Mates - a childhood friend

Randy always had a special kind of wit and always made me laugh. I don't think he allowed himself to get too serious about anything and was friendly to all who patronized the Port Ryerse General Store when he had it back in the late 70's / early 80's.

Life long friend from pre kindergarten. Member of the three beauties during our elermentary school days performing for Junior Red Cross with Garry Mather and myself. Never had a bad time with Fish from our days fishing off creeks or suttons pond as kids or random meetings over the years. A very sincere fun guy who will be missed.

Hi Carol, My deepest Condolences to you and yours!!
I am so sad to hear of Fish's passing, I just talked to him on Sunday and he told me wasn't feeling great. He was a great buddy of a neighbour and I always liked looking out for and helping him out. I already missed our lunchtime cribbage games and drinks.!! Too bad about this Covid crapp, I wanted to pay my respects in person.
Until we meet again my friend.
Neighbour Billy!!
Cheers

The Fish carried his nickname from a young boy, decades before he became a commercial fisherman. As a boy he fished the Lynn river, a solitary figure sitting on the grass by the willow by the bridge. I wet a line with him a few times, off Port Ryerse , Owen Sound and elsewhere. He was a genuine character, followed his own path, and a very nice person with a dry, wicked sense of humour. My favorite line is "watch us drive the bike," but that's another story.

Fish you were a great friend. We loved stopping in to see you. You never changed! You did not even seem to age like the rest of us! Your sense of humour, the way you would tease us.... it was all great fun. We will miss you dear friend. Sleep well ... Condolences to your sisters, Marg & Carol.
