Dear Sid and Logan and your family, so very sad to hear this news. John will be missed by many for the special man that he was. I'm grateful to have met you when I lived in Port Ryerse and enjoyed working for you at the Sandalmaker, it remains one of my happiest memories of living in Port Dover and I will miss seeing you both there. It certainly is the end of an era for Port Dover. You remain in my thoughts and prayers. Love Hetty

Sending Sid and family my sincere condolences. John was a wonderful man, always a smile on his face and a welcome in his eyes. I was fortunate to have worked at Sandalmakers for a few years and enjoyed getting to know both of you. You are in my thoughts. My husband George passed last September and I know you are going to have many difficult days ahead of you. Be strong, stay busy and keep him in your heart and memories. One step, one day at a time.
I will treasure my sandals and remember him fondly.
Love from Janice Secord

I am really sorry to learn of my cousin Johnny's passing. He was enormously gracious and patient with a 13-year old me when I was visiting with my parents from England in 1968, and twelve years later honoured me with a wonderful pair of sandals when I visited again - sadly, this was the last time I saw him. My deepest sympathy and prayers are with Sid and Logan. Lynn (Miller) Fortin

My condolences to John’s family on his untimely death. We met in Brantford many years ago when he started the Sandal Maker shop. He was always available for a drop in conversation, beer and jokes. I admired his craftsmanship in his products and his quick wit in conversation, but mostly that he was a unique human being. I join the many who will miss his presence on this earth.

John was known for his friendly ,creative spirit and signature mustache. His clever sense of design and workmanship in the custom-made leather pieces brought many people to the Sandalmaker..I worked in his shop during the summer of 1977 and have fond memories of that time.John knew all of the local fishermen , sailors and town characters. His shop was always buzzing with activity. John's passing marks the end of an era for Port Dover.

Oh my, my dear friend, my creative compadre, my Port Dover 'beach boy' nemesis (when we were oh so young) I am so sad and bereft at your passing. We were not side by side buddies but more so we were similar ships that sailed with and by one another sharing many memorable times over the years, sharing a solid friendship and moments of joy, comradery and 'peace love groovey'
We were 'Hippies' once.
I remember you visiting me at my 'Gallery Guild of Arts and Crafts' in Toronto once whence I showed you the great leather belts I was making and you showed me a pair of superb hand crafted sandals you had made and I went back to painting.
My heart and my thoughts goes out to the family, especially you Cindy (Sid). May the Universal energies be with you and comfort you.
Later 'Johnny' Miller, later! John. W. Jaques
