Dear Steven, Bruce and Stewart: I am saddened to hear of the passing of my dear friend Sandra. We had some wonderful fun together over the years. Including your Dad whom we also miss. Sandra & I had great fun giving Sheridan Park School a Home & School Association in spite of the principal thinking we were just annoying him. We raised some great money for the school. Your parents trusted me with the house move from Sheridan Homelands to Meadowvale and then the hunt for a new home in Port Dover. We also had lots of just friends time. I had recently spoken to her about her move to the retirement residence and am surprised to has passed. When I spoke to her seemed fine and in great spirits. Sandra was a wonderful friend, Mom and life partner. I am sure all who know her will miss her greatly. I am making a donation to the Port Dover Food Bank in her name. All the best to you. I am sure you have wonderful memories, (as do I) that will sustain you now and in the future

Dear Bruce, Stewart, and Steven, you were truly blessed with a great mom, and Nancy and I with a wonderful aunt. Sandra was a gift to so many people, and we’re very glad to have been even a small part of her world. To us, she was a free-spirited inspiration, a mentor, a friend, and the Szostak family lifeline. Since your dad and both our parents have been gone for so long, it was only Sandra’s phone calls, humorous anecdotes, and Christmas card updates that kept the memory of this side of the family alive for us.
This is a sad and difficult time especially for you right now, but we hope you can find some comfort and inspiration in having each other to lean on, and your families (including your cousins) and friends to talk to, and the knowledge that your mom will fondly live on in the hearts and memories of so many.
We’ll never forget you, Sandra—our loss is Heaven’s gain.
Linda

I will be forever grateful to my aunt Sandra for getting me started with drawing and painting at a young age, and encouraging me to follow an art career. I’m also glad we reconnected over the past few years and kept in touch by phone and email. I enjoyed our conversations and her sense of humour. She will be greatly missed! Rest in peace, aunt Sandra.

I met Sandra in 1965. Stan and Mike, my husband to be at that time were close friends. Sandra and I hit it off right away and we had great times together along with Nick and Gloria Sernuik , Bill and Carol Bobechko. I remember playing Monopoly into the wee hours of the morning. Life moved on and my present husband and myself now live in Nova Scotia. I lost touch with Sandra for awhile but she found me out on the east coast. Two or three times a year we would phone each other and have great chats. I remember Sandra as a very positive cheerful person who always found the best in everything. She never let on to me how ill she was so it was with great shock when Bruce informed me of her death.
Keith and I send our condolences to you, her much loved sons Stephen, Stewart and Bruce. She is misssed.

Dear Bruce, Steven and Stewart
I was so sad to hear about your mother. We have been communicating by phone and letter frequently these past years,
Your Mom had such vivid memories of our shared childhoods. She was always so positive and full, of good advice
whenever I needed it. I am moving to your mother’s area this year and we had many plans to finally get together and play bridge,
I will miss her dearly. Condolences to all of you.

Bruce, Stewart and Steven...I so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom, my neighbourhood mom, and my own mom's dearest friend. Most of my best memories of Belfast Crescent involve her-she was really the glue that held us all together. And I feel particularly honoured that she came to my wedding on the other side of the country. Please know how much I am thinking of you all at this time.

I first met Sandra in June 1972, a few days after moving into out first home when she, Stephen and Stewart dropped in for a visit. The 11 years we lived in this neighbourhood are remembered as some of the best years of our lives! The Szostak’s were very generous and “the neighbourhood glue” hosting many house parties, pool parties, bridge nights, dinners, firework celebrations in their backyard, etc. Sandra was the “ultimate organizer” who loved being with people and enjoyed sports! She even managed to get my late husband involved in coaching youth T-ball and baseball! After both our families moved to new neighbourhoods, we kept in touch including after the Szostsk’s last move to Port Dover and an annual visit after Sandra lost Stan! Last July, I and two other women (Sue H & Wendy G) from the “original neighbourhood” visited Sandra in Port Dover for lunch and enjoyed a delightful time reminiscing about all our fun times in the 70’s and early 80’s! So happy we did this as it meant so much to each of us! RIP Sandra - you will definitely be missed and never forgotten! My thoughts and condolences are with Sandra’s family!
Love
Susan

For 46 years Sandra and I were best friends. When I arrived in Mississauga in 1976 Sandra was there to help me adjust to the move from NL. Within days she helped me to enroll my kids in school and I become a part of the neighbourhood bowling league. Our children became very close and the boys had many sleepovers. Although our friendship became a long distance one in the past 20 years she was always a constant in my life that I could rely on. I will miss you dear Sandra.
Love forever,
Jean

Steven, Stewart and Bruce - so sorry for the loss of your mother. I have many wonderful childhood memories with your family. Your mother was, at times, like a second mother to me. She would score our t-ball games, take us bowling on Saturday mornings and score those games as well, and she'd bring us to the theatre on Sunday afternoons to watch a play. One of the best treats was when she would take us to Exhibition Stadium to watch a Blue Jay game.
All of us kids in the neighbourhood knew it was time to go home from a day of playing street hockey or baseball when Sandra would call out to her boys in the early evening, I can still hear it today.
My thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Take care.

We met Sandra through the Newcomers Group in Port Dover during which she came to several of the meetings which she so enjoyed. When Haiti had their devastating earthquake, she was the first in line to contribute to a collection of spades, shovels, rakes and a wheelbarrow which was being sent down by container to help the Haitian people clean up and rebuild. Her spirit will be missed.
