Obituary of Bob Borthwick
BORTHWICK, Robert David. Bob passed away peacefully on June 23, 2023 in his 80th year surrounded by his loving family. Survived by his wife and best friend, Vicki, his children Warren (Kristen), Bradley (Justine) and Krista (David) and grandchildren Cole, Curtis, Emma, Rachel, Wren and Anouk - the lights of his life! Bob was a man of few words, but when he spoke you listened. He had an understated, quiet confidence tied to a practical nature. He was famously thrifty due to his stereotypical Scottish heritage, but he would open his wallet and didn't spare any expense on travel with his family during his children's formative years and then later when traveling with Vicki to Bucerias, Mexico, where they spent the last twenty winters with their second family. Bob arrived in Port Dover in 1979 as part of the start up team for Stelco Steel Nanticoke. He considered this role to be a real honour, as few people have the opportunity to initiate such an enterprise as part of their professional career. He also believed in giving back to the community as a life-long member of the Port Dover Lions Club. He was instrumental in the purchase, development, and maintenance of Silver Lake Park when he was club President. He referred to the park as a jewel in Port Dover and it was a great retirement project for him, as it complimented his love of cutting grass. Pottery was another of Bob's passions and he produced many beautiful objects over the years which now adorn the homes of many of his family and friends - pieces that hold a presence in the room, each with his simple signature "BoB" fixed to the bottom. A special thank you to the Home Care Team and the support services engaged in the past weeks. We couldn't have asked for better care. Also, a big thank you to our friends and family for their love and support. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at THOMPSON WATERS FUNERAL HOME 102 First Ave Port Dover on Wednesday July 19, 2023 at 2pm. Reverend Sheena Marini officiating. . Donations to the Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton, in lieu of flowers, would be appreciated. Online donations or condolences can be made at www.thompsonwatersfuneralhome.ca
