Obituary of Simon Joynes

Simon Joynes passed away surrounded by his family on February 4, 2024. Beloved husband of Daniele. Loving father of Fiona. Simon leaves behind his brother Mark (Emma Moxley) and his sisters Carol Sweeton (George) and Nicola Campbell (David). Predeceased by his parents Derek and Patricia (2023) and his brother-in-law George Sweeton. (2013). Simon will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Simon was a talented runner and earned a scholarship to East Tennessee State University. He has run the Around the Bay 30km race three times, the Toronto Marathon, and completed a triathlon in 2019, later translating his experience to encourage and train young runners in the Norfolk area all the way to provincial competitions - a testament to his generosity of time and knowledge. He was passionately involved in the project to resurface the Todd Eaton memorial track at Lakewood in 2020. And if you take your dog or your bike on that track, you will hear from him. Simon was an actor, playwright and director and has been the Artistic Director of Port Stanley Festival Theatre for eighteen years. Through his leadership, business skill, and keen eye for talent, the theatre has grown steadily and exponentially. He was the Interim Artistic Director at Lighthouse Theatre in 2004. He has written four produced plays, and mentored and produced the work of many new writers through the New Playwrights Workshop at PSFT. Simon was a member of the Port Dover Yacht Club Race division. He took great joy sailing and counts many good friends among his competitors. His dry humor and passionate spirit will be missed by many. Arrangements entrusted to Thompson Waters Funeral Home (519)583-1530. A Celebration of Life will be held in Simons' honour at the Lighthouse Festival Theater 247 Main Street Sunday, February 25th from 2 to 5pm For those wishing, donations can be made to The Norfolk General Hospital Foundation. Online condolences and/or donations can be made at www.thompsonwatersfuneralhome.ca.
